I knew a guy with two kids who named his business what would have been his third child, and it worked for him. This story is just to say that branding comes about in many ways. One of the best pieces of advice we received in the early startup days is to know when to work on your business and not in it. And that means when you’re working on your business, you might put yourself into unfamiliar roles, like branding and marketing.

Before we get into the best time to brand or rebrand your company, let’s level set on what brand is. A brand is how your stakeholders feel about you. It’s what Marty Neumeier says is the gut feeling you have when you think of a brand. That feeling is what we want to influence your audiences.
